Western Designs
Biography:
Tom McCoy
was born in 1952. An early interest in art involving different
mediums, such as woodworking, metal sculpting, and oil and acrylic
painting have always been an important part of his life. As an
accomplished musician, he spent a twenty year career in the music
industry based in Southern California. Tom still plays with various
bands between Los Angeles and Cody.
In
2008 Tom was commissioned to renovate the interior of a retired
railroad caboose and turn it into office and gallery space. The
Narrow Gauge Railroad at Knott’s Berry Farm, where he worked as a
musician, was his inspiration on this project. Tom creates
furniture and accessories that can be fun and whimsical or elegant
western classics in his workshop in Clark, Wyoming.
Artist
Statement:
I draw
from many areas for my inspiration. Some artists that I greatly
admire are Charles M. Russell, Thomas Molesworth, Georgia O’Keefe
and Alexander Calder. Natural settings that have had a creative
impact on my work include, the high country of the Rockies and the
deserts of the Southwest. Architecture, antiques and even old
cowboy movies can also influence my art.
